Discipline

  • It is the duty and responsibility of each and every student to help the Principal and the Staff in creating a positive learning environment in the Campus in order to optimize their learning outcomes.
  • Students ought to cultivate a sense of belonging, and be diligent in putting the vision and missions of the College into practice for their greater good.
  • It is imperative that they should try to form themselves to be industrious, caring and compassionate individuals while at Deva Matha.
  • Students ought to pursue the spirit of enquiry, the acquisition of knowledge and understanding, and the thoughtful formulation and pursual of worthwhile goals in life
  • They are responsible, ultimately, for their own learning, rather than expecting to be spoon-fed.
  • Punctuality in attending lectures and other activities, and regularity in study/work are expected from every student.
  • Students are expected to maintain silence in the classroom/s, corridor/s, stairway/s, and in the building/s during the work day: no loud talking, shouting, or cat calls, etc., are permitted even during the recess.
  • A dignified physical posture in the classroom/s, and elsewhere in the Campus, is essential for one’s psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being as well as for one’s mental pursuits.
  • Students are expected to take proper care of the furniture, fixtures and fittings, and other equipment in the classroom/s, corridor/s, etc. in particular, and in the buildings and the Campus, in general.
  • Disfigurement of furniture and equipment, and the walls of building/s. are prohibited.
  • Any damage to the College property must be brought to the notice of the College Authorities immediately, and those responsible have to bear the consequences for their actions, namely, restitution and/or other disciplinary measures.
  • All forms of scholastic dishonesty, including plagiarizing, malpractices in the exams. will attract appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Students ought to be polite and courteous to one another, to the Staff and to the general public. They are reminded that the College is known by their behaviour and conduct.
  • They should respect and obey the Staff (the Administrative, Teaching and Non-teaching staff) at all times for the common good.
  • Insubordination and defiance of the College Authorities will invite disciplinary action/s.
  • Rumour mongering/accusations/character assassination and the use of demeaning/abusive language and gestures, threatening and/or rowdy behaviour are forbidden.
  • Students are absolutely forbidden to bring externs/outsiders to the Campus. If family members accompany them to the Campus for a valid reason, they ought to establish their identity.
  • Students are notified that the Campus is under CCTV surveillance.
  • Uniform is compulsory on all days except Wednesdays. Be well-groomed as a mark of respect to oneself and to the others.
  • Thy must wear Identity Tags in the Campus on all days, and are expected to do the same when they represent the College outside, in an official capacity.
  • Students are expected to dress formally on Wednesdays. Casual/revealing/tight-fitting attire is not permitted.
  • A Fine will be imposed on students for the breach of the Uniform Code (Dress and ID Tag, etc.).
  • Students are expected to keep the classroom/s, veranda/s, stairways, and the Campus neat and tidy; make use of the dustbins provided in the classroom/s, verandas, and in the Campus.
  • Littering and spitting in the open are absolutely prohibited. Help the cleaning staff to maintain the toilets clean and hygienic.
  • Students shall not crowd the corridors, staircases, verandas, canteen, and the space in front of the Office, Library and the Principal’s Chamber.
  • They must conduct themselves in an orderly and dignified manner when visiting the Office, Labs, Library or go across to the other building/s, and when they return.
  • Uphold the dignity and decorum at functions and gatherings organized by the College from time to time. Any act that is intended to disturb/cause disruption and spread confusion is a serious breach of the Code of Discipline.
  • Being a co-educational institution, the students should maintain dignity and decorum in their dealings with the opposite gender at all times. Violation of their privacy/personal boundaries, jokes and comments aimed at belittling or cause embarrassment to them and inflict physical harm or emotional distress are punishable offenses.   • Any unhealthy, inclusive and/or objectionable relationship between students detrimental to their academic performance and tarnishes their own reputation is strictly forbidden.
  • Use of mobile phones or other smart communication devices in the Campus is not permitted. Such devices will be confiscated, and disciplinary action will be initiated against the offenders.
  • Smoking, intoxication and the use of legally banned substances or the peddling of these in the Campus is prohibited by Law.
  • Similarly, possession and distribution of objectionable/harmful materials, print or electronic, is absolutely forbidden.
  • Carrying of weapons, violence, vandalism/destruction of College property might even lead to the rustication of students.
  • Students have to make good the value of the property damaged or destroyed, and will have to face criminal proceedings against them according to the Laws of the land.
  • College Authorities, including the Faculty, reserve the right to search and seize objectionable items brought to the Campus by students, if not surrendered voluntarily, for the common good.
  • Laptops may be brought to the College, but with the permission of the concerned teacher/s.
  • Misuse of the Computer and Internet facility in the classroom/s or Lab/s and downloading and viewing of inappropriate/harmful web-content invite appropriate penal sanctions.
  • Forwarding of offensive electronic message/s or influencing other/s to do so on one’s behalf and the abuse of social media platforms to get even with anyone associated with the College is prohibited.
  • Obstruction, in any form, of anyone associated with the College in carrying out their assigned duties and responsibilities is prohibited.
  • Practice of discrimination, partiality and partisanship of any type, and the propagation of communal/sectarian agenda through whatever means is forbidden.
  • Students ought to cultivate gender sensitivity and fairness in their dealings with other students, the Staff and those visiting the College.
  • The College maintains an equal distance from all political formations and political ideologies. Indulging in an activity of a political nature, or encouraging other students to do so, overtly or covertly is prohibited (cf. Directives from the Supreme Court/High Court, and the UGC, etc.) for the larger interests of the student body.
  • They are also forbidden from participating in demonstrations/agitations sponsored by student organizations of Political Parties in the Campus.
  • Organizing meetings/gatherings in the Campus are not allowed without the prior written permission of the Principal.
  • Do not engage in activities aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the College and her Staff, and the Management.
  • No student shall circulate/distribute notices, pamphlets, leaflets, fliers, etc. in the Campus, nor are they permitted to exhibit banners, flags, flex-boards, etc., in the Campus without the written permission of the Principal/the Management.
  • Motorcycle rallies, sloganeering, and other aggressive behaviours are banned in the Campus. Such demeanours will invite stern disciplinary action/s.
  • Formation of Club/s or Association/s in the Campus without the written permission of the Principal is prohibited.
  • Bullying/intimidation, hazing/ragging, or any other practice/ritual involving harassment, abuse or humiliation directed against another, and especially against juniors will also invite severe penal sanctions.
  • Sexual harassment and sexual abuse of another is a punishable criminal offence.
  • Soliciting or accepting gifts, in cash or in kind, from students/externs in the name of the College is not allowed.
  • No student shall enter into any contract with others in the name of the College..

  • Students are not to leave the Campus without the written permission of the Principal/College Authorities. If necessary, a Leave Letter for the same, endorsed by parent/local guardian must be submitted to the Principal’s office, along with the recommendation of the class teacher.
  • Students should park two wheelers only in the area marked off for them. Obtain the vehicle parking permit sticker from the office for the same. Late arrivals are not allowed to use the student parking lot for the day.
  • Students are not allowed to bring four wheelers to the Campus.
  • For Certificates/Documents to be issued by the Office of the Principal, one needs to submit duly completed Application Form/s to the same Office in advance.
  • Students must obtain written permission from the Principal to stay back in the Campus for any length of time after 03.30 p.m., and the Administrative Assistant must be notified of the same in writing.
  • Conserve water and electricity. All electric gadgets in the classroom/s have to be turned off before leaving the classroom/s. The water faucets, especially in the toilets, have to be tuned off after use.
  • Students can enter the Faculty Rooms only with permission.
  • No one is permitted to goof off/loaf around while lectures/functions are in progress in the Campus.
  • They should not leave the College Campus without the permission of the Principal.
  • Everyone is expected to co-operate in maintaining a green and clean, plastic free Campus.
  • The College gives utmost priority to the dignified and orderly conduct of students, and everyone is bound to follow the rules and regulations, in letter and spirit, for the realization of her aims and objectives.
  • The Principal is empowered to fine, suspend or even rusticate students from the College for serious and repeated breaches of the rules and regulations in the larger interest of the Institution at the recommendation of the Discipline Committee.
